Kaci leaned back against Drake as he wrapped his arms around her.
âWhat next? Are you tired?â He looked at his mom and dad.
âOh no, itâs not late at home. We should go do something. What do people do for fun around here?â Dad drank down the last of his tea.
Drake wrinkled his brow, clearly surprised that they wanted to go out. âWe, um, . . .â
âDancing. People go dancing.â Kaci looked up at him. âBut I should probably change if weâre going to do that.â
âTell me what to wear.â His mom clapped. âThis is exciting.â
âI may stay in this dress but throw on my boots. Jeans and a shirt would be fine, too. Any shoes with smooth soles would work.â Kaci reached back and grabbed his hand. âIs that okay?â
Drake hugged her tighter. âPerfectly okay.â He handed the BMW keys to his dad. âIâm going to change and run Kaci home in the Lamborghini. If I leave you an addressââ
âTake the BMW. Weâll be fine.â
Maisie poked Trey in the side. âJust fine.â
Drake walked out of the room without another word.
Laughing, his parents wandered down the hall, leaving Kaci alone in the kitchen. She used the minutes to remind herself that Drake was pretending. Even if he wasnât, pretending to date meant she didnât need to tell Sam there was something going on.
And there wasnât. Not really.
Kaci held on to that thought, trying to reassure herself that she wasnât the worst friend in the world.
It wasnât long before Drake walked into the room dressed in fitted jeans and a paisley shirt. âReady?â
âYeah. Your parentsââ
He put his hand up.
Kaci took the hint and didnât say anymore.
Once they were both buckled in and on their way to her apartment, he finally spoke. âIâm not sure if they are even going to meet us or if they just want us to go dancing.â
âI texted your mom Artâs number in case they wanted to get a limo.â
âSend them the address too.â
âWhere are we going? We never talked about where.â
âPick your favorite place to dance.â He flashed a smile. âI didnât know you liked boot scootinâ.â
âDo you?â She texted the address to Drake and his parents.
âI do now.â
